Everton fell to their 17th Premier League loss of the season on Sunday as they returned from the capital emptyhanded following a 2-1 loss at West Ham United.
The Toffees only have a three-point gap above the drop zone, with the current batch of first team regulars losing six and winning only twice in Lampard’s first eight league games in charge at the club.
Former Everton star Ball has insisted Lampard need to start taking some brave decisions and look at the possibility of playing more academy stars in the first team or take a gamble and trust fringe players to help the team get some positive results.
Ball added that Lampard should assess all his players and find the ones that are ready to give their all for Everton and aid the team in avoiding relegation this season.
“At this point I think Frank really needs to be brave and start looking at youth, or start looking at players who have not yet had a chance”, Ball wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“He needs to have a look around and see who he can trust.
“With the players who have not been getting a game, what are they doing from Monday to Friday?
“We need them to be knocking on the door and asking Frank to explain why they are not playing.
“Frank Lampard was a professional and he worked hard every day.
“He needs to see who he can trust, who is doing everything for that blue shirt, who is going to be concerned about having a relegation on their CV.”
Everton are gearing up for a crucial top flight clash against fellow relegation candidates Burnley at Turf Moor midweek.
