The 26-year-old is a fixture at the back for Mainz this season and also wears the armband for the Bundesliga outfit.
Niakhate’s performances on the pitch have seen him attract interest from rival clubs in Germany and from abroad, and a summer switch could be in the offing.
The Premier League trio of West Ham, Everton and Newcastle are all interested in acquiring the services of Niakhate, who will only have one year left on his current deal at Mainz following this season.
West Ham are looking to bring in a replacement for Angelo Ogbonna, who is sidelined with a long-term injury, and has Niakhate in their sights, while Newcastle are also keeping tabs on him as they are keen on strengthening their defence in the summer.
Everton are also considering a potential swoop for the Mainz star, provided they remain in the Premier League this season.
Mainz are tipped to allow the centre-back to leave in the summer for a fee in the £8m range, to avoid seeing him walk away for free at the end of next season.
It remains to be seen whether Niakhate will play in the Premier League next term, with the likes of Everton, West Ham and Newcastle looking on with prying eyes.
