The Toffees are currently facing the prospect of being relegated from the top flight football for the first time since the 1950/51 season and a loss away at Burnley on Wednesday has further added to their misery.

Everton are just one point above the drop zone and have just nine games left in the top flight to save their season, with the majority of them coming against teams in the top half of the table.

Despite their daunting run of fixtures, and poor form, former top flight star Rush still backs Everton to maintain their Premier League status this season as he believes they will be able to get the necessary points in remaining games.

Rush stressed that Everton’s home games will be crucial to their survival, and added they will see upcoming clash against Manchester United at the weekend at Goodison Park as a winnable one.

“The relegation battle is so hard to call at this stage”, Rush wrote in his Gambling.com column.

“For me, Everton have the best group of players of the teams involved down there, but they’re not used to a relegation scrap whereas the likes of Burnley are.

“I’m backing Everton to get out of this – their home support will be invaluable and they’ll see this weekend’s visit of Manchester United as a winnable game.

“It’s not going to be easy, but their home games are key to their survival and I think they’ll get enough points on the board to stay up.”

Five of Everton’s remaining nine games will be played at Goodison Park, and they will be determined to get maximum points from those, having struggled throughout the campaign with their away form.
