Eriksen has provided a feel-good story in football this season after proving his well-being at Brentford since joining the club in January.

The Dane’s career was on the line after he had a cardioverter-defibrillator fitted in the wake of his cardiac arrest during Euro 2020.

He joined Brentford on a short-term deal until the end of the season but the club are keen to keep him beyond the summer; they face a challenge to do so however as Everton and Tottenham are looking to snap him up.

However, Newcastle are claimed to be pushing hard to secure a deal to take him to St. James’ Park on a free transfer ahead of next season.

The Magpies have identified the former Tottenham man as one of their top targets and are confident of getting a deal done.

Spurs and Everton, along with West Ham, all represent real competition for Eriksen.

But Newcastle officials are growing increasingly hopeful of beating their Premier League rivals to Eriksen’s signing.

Newcastle are mindful of being staying within financial fair play rules and the opportunity to sign a player of the Dane’s quality on a free transfer is appealing to them.
