Marsch is only the third American manager in the Premier League, following David Wagner at Huddersfield Town and Bob Bradley at Swansea City.
While German-born Wagner’s stint as a Premier League manager lasted one and a half years, Bradley lasted just 85 days and was roundly criticised during his spell in charge.
Former striker Wright-Phillips feels that American managers are put under the scanner by the English media.
He feels that Marsch will come in for criticism which will be unfair, especially as he believes the English press does not respect the MLS, but is not concerned about it affecting the new Leeds manager.
“They are unfairly tough on Americans, they disrespect MLS a bit”, Wright-Phillips said in an interview with mlssoccer.com.
“It just takes time. They’re going to have their little jokes. But me knowing Jesse, I don’t think it bothers him very much.
“If they’re going to try to wind him, they’ve got to be prepared to take what comes back.”
Marsch has helped Leeds build a four-game unbeaten run as a result of which they are now close to attaining Premier League safety.
The American will soon have the chance to put his stamp on the Leeds squad ahead of next season, where the Whites will be looking to progress in the Premier League.
