The Yorkshire giants have taken ten points from the 12 available in their last four matches in the league and have build a cushion over the bottom three as the end of the season approaches.

They currently enjoy an eight-point lead over relegation battlers Burnley, with six games left to be played.

Prutton feels that the situation cannot be termed comfortable, though he feels that his former side have given themselves a good chance by virtue of their recent run of results.

“I hate and hesitate to use the word ‘comfort’ because there is absolutely no comfort in where they are because they are not safe yet”, Prutton wrote in his column for the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“But they have given themselves one hell of a chance with the recent run of results.”

Reflecting on Leeds’ strong run of form this time around last season against some of the toughest sides in the division, Prutton insisted that there is no reason they cannot do it again.

“Leeds got points this time last season against the really big hitters, albeit there was a different set of circumstances and approach to that but they definitely don’t have to sell themselves short even though anything that comes of it is a bonus.

“But you might have a Man City side licking its wounds and you might have a Chelsea side that we know has thrown up a couple of anomalous results in the last couple of months.

“It remains to be seen but it’s marginally rosier because of what they have done in the lead-up to it than it possibly could have been if they were chasing their tail somewhat.”

Leeds have Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all coming up between now and the end of the season.
