Targett left Aston Villa to join the Magpies in January following the arrival of Lucas Digne from Everton, jumping into a relegation battle at St James’ Park.
He has helped Newcastle pull clear of danger and with the season now approaching its end, it will soon be decision time for all parties involved.
While not clearly stating his preference, Targett insisted that he has been enjoying his time at St James’ Park in front of the Newcastle United faithful.
He further took time to express his wish to see his future sorted out sooner rather than later.
“I’m sure and hope they can sort something out for me”, Targett told Chronicle Live.
“For sure it [decision time] is coming closer so at the moment I am really enjoying my time here and loving playing in front of the Geordie fans here.”
Lifting the lid on his exit from Aston Villa, Targett revealed how Steven Gerrard coming in made life difficult for him at Villa Park and how the Newcastle United challenge appeared to be a massive one for him.
“That’s just the way it is. A new manager [Steven Gerrard] came in and he might fancy you, so you look elsewhere.
“This was a massive challenge. I think the club were 19th in the table.
“But it was a project and there was real belief that I could get here and make an impact and help the team. I think I have done that.
“With the group of players they have here already I think they were too good to be where they were.
“It was a no-brainer to come here. Like I say I have really enjoyed my time here.”
Targett has so far missed only one game since moving to Newcastle, which was against his parent club Aston Villa, and has impressed as part opf the Magpies’ backline.
