The Hammers failed to bolster their centre-back options in January and their injury issues in that position have gone from bad to worse at the business end of the campaign.
Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma have suffered season ending injuries, while Issa Diop could be sidelined for the remainder of this term, which has left Craig Dawson as the only senior centre-back option at the club, while top flight rivals Leicester have also had to deal with injuries in their defensive department.
West Ham boss David Moyes has identified centre-back as a priority position that needs to be strengthened in the summer and former Norwich star Sutton feels Canaries defender Hanley would be an excellent signing for both the Hammers and the Foxes.
League-bottom Norwich are likely to suffer relegation this season and Sutton believes Hanley will be a hot-property in the forthcoming window, and has tipped Leicester and West Ham as two clubs that could offer him top flight football for next season.
“I’m sure that Hanley is ambitious”, Sutton wrote in his Pink Un column.
“Sometimes as a player you can have your head turned, I certainly did at a time when I wasn’t looking to leave Norwich, but the allure of top-flight football is very strong.
“To throw two clubs out there, Leicester City have struggled with defensive injuries this season and West Ham have been stretched at the back.
“Hanley would be an excellent addition to both of those clubs, in my opinion.
“He will be highly sought after.”
It remains to be seen whether West Ham or Leicester will indeed pounce on the Norwich skipper in the forthcoming window.
