Marsch took charge of Leeds towards the end of February when the Whites decided to part ways with Bielsa following a dreadful run of form.

The American has managed to put together a run of results and Leeds now have an eight-point lead over teams in the relegation zone.

However, he was not the only candidate Leeds were considering when the thought to sack Bielsa came about at Elland Road.

According to Spanish sports daily Marca, Real Madrid legend Raul was one of the names Leeds seriously considered bringing in.

The Spaniard has been in charge of the Real Madrid reserve team since 2019 and has garnered praise for his work at that level.

Leeds director of football Victor Orta is aware of the work he has been carrying out at Real Madrid and he was a name that was on the Whites’ shortlist.

However, Leeds eventually decided to move for Marsch, a candidate Orta had been tracking for a few years.

Raul is yet to manage at senior level but has been tipped to become the Real Madrid coach in the future.
