Mane only managed 16 goals from 48 outings across all competitions last season for Liverpool, but has already surpassed that tally with 19 strikes with games still left to be played.

Since returning from international duty with Senegal in early February, Mane has been on fire for the Reds, scoring six goals in nine games, while also registering two assists in the process.

Liverpool legend Rush is delighted that Mane has returned to form, as he is scoring and creating goals, while also exhibiting excellent hold up play in a more central role up front.

“From a Liverpool perspective Tuesday night [4-0 league win against Manchester United] couldn’t have gone any better and I’m particularly enjoying Sadio Mane’s return to form since he’s moved in to the central role in the front three”, Rush wrote in his Gambling.com column.

“Sadio has been fantastic of late, scoring goals, making goals and holding up the ball so well.”

Rush feels that Mane dropped his levels a bit last season, but stressed he has been excellent in attack for Liverpool this year, in which he also has had success at international level with Senegal.

“Sadio’s levels dropped a little last season but he seems to be enjoying a new lease of life this year and looks set to break the 20-goal barrier.

“Ever since he won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, he’s been excellent so maybe that achievement has added an extra spring in his step.

“He looked a bit tired last season but it seems to me that a combination of success on the international stage and a switch to the No.9 role has done him the world of good.”

Fans will be hoping Mane continues to provide the fireworks up front for Liverpool as they continue their quest for an unprecedented quadruple.
