When Howe took over at Newcastle in early November, they were toiling in the relegation zone without a single win in the Premier League.

The 44-year-old managed to steady the ship at the Tyneside giants, and has guided them away from the bottom three into ninth in the league, while racking up eleven wins in the process.

Former top flight star Prutton has heaped praise on Howe for overseeing a phenomenal transformation at the club since taking over as manager.

Prutton explained that St James’ Park was a toxic place during the Mike Ashley-Steve Bruce era and Howe, with his charges, has now turned it into to a tough stadium to visit for opponents.

“They [Crystal Palace] went up to Newcastle United on Wednesday night and lost but Newcastle are pulling away from trouble and what they have managed to harness up there under Eddie Howe since the change of manager has been phenomenal really”, Prutton wrote in his Yorkshire Evening Post column.

“I’ve seen a couple of Newcastle games during that run and St James’ Park is a tough place to go now after it being such a toxic place so let’s not discredit how tough that is and, given the players that Palace have got, there is absolutely no chance that Leeds [United] can take this [Monday’s clash] one lightly.”

Newcastle have won six top flight games on the bounce at St James’ Park but are now gearing up for a tough challenge at the weekend when they host title chasing Liverpool.
