Leeds ground out a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday night and left south London with a point in their kitty as they look to survive in the Premier League this season.

The Whites are unbeaten in five in the league and Marsch has managed to make them more defensively solid than they looked under former boss Marcelo Bielsa this season.

However, a section of the Leeds fans are not happy at their side’s inability to find the back of the net regularly and believe the team have become more defensively minded under the American.

Blake conceded that following Bielsa’s ultra-attacking brand of football was always going to be a challenge for Marsch but he credited the Leeds boss for turning the team’s season around.

He feels Leeds fans need to give Marsch a pre-season to further get his ideas through to the players and the time to judge him will only come next season.

The former White said on BBC Radio Leeds: “When you had the brilliance of Bielsa and you had so much attacking flair going on in terms of how he wants to play, Jesse has come in and has been a little more reserved.

“I am a massive Bielsa fan and I was devastated when he went, but what you have to say is, yes, it is nowhere near as entertaining and flair players are being given different jobs, but five games unbeaten towards the end of the season.

“Jesse had a hard act to follow and I think he has done a respectable job.

“I think he has got to be judged next year when he has a new pre-season and he can instil everything that he wants.

“I still don’t think that he has fully got to that stage yet and then he got to be judged on whether he is a negative manager or more attacking manager.

“I think then you will see the true Jesse team.”

Leeds will need that defensive solidity in their next three games in the top flight when they take on Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea respectively.
