The 20-year-old winger has been a bit-part player at Leeds this season and his last appearance came in a seven-minute cameo in their 3-0 win over Watford earlier this month.

The attacker was missing from the squad in Leeds’ 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday night and it has been revealed that he picked up an injury ahead of the game.

The Leeds boss added the Dutchman has suffered an ankle injury and will now be out of action for the rest of the campaign, in a blow to the Whites as they look to survive.

The American said in a press conference: “Summerville picked up an injury before Palace in training.

“Twisted his ankle and is out for the season.”

Summerville wanted to leave Leeds on loan in the winter transfer window in search of regular football but Marcelo Bielsa blocked the move.

He will have a year left on his contract in the summer and could again want to move on if he does not see the prospect of regular game time.
