Newcastle are set to host Premier League-chasing Liverpool at St. James’ Park on Saturday in a game that could have a huge bearing on the fate of the title race this season.
Liverpool are just a point behind Manchester City in the league and both teams are aware that any slip-up for the rest of the season could become fatal for their title hopes.
Newcastle have won their last four league games and will hope to dent Liverpool’s hopes of winning the Premier League and the quadruple on Saturday.
But Howe is hopeful that the game could become more of a top-of-the-table title decider in the near future given the plans Newcastle’s wealthy owners have for the club.
However, the Newcastle boss refused to provide any timeframe on when the club could be in that position again.
Ahead of the Liverpool game, Howe said in a press conference: “Hopefully it is [a title decider] in the future.
“It’s where we aspire to be, but at the moment we are where we are.
“You’re not going to get a time[frame] out of me, that’s impossible.
“My aim is to improve today, to be better tomorrow.”
Howe has dramatically turned around Newcastle’s fortunes over the last few months and they are now currently ninth in the league table after spending 150 days in the bottom three this season.
