Since completing a takeover in early October, the Magpies’ new owners have been in the process of rebuilding the club and they have overseen a flurry of changes behind the scenes.

Having ensured their Premier League safety this season, Newcastle are looking to further support boss Eddie Howe and they are looking to strengthen his backroom staff.

And the Tyneside giants are on the verge of making a new appointment to their backroom staff as they have succeeded in snaring away Mason from Blackburn.

Mason, who is the head of athletic performance at Ewood Park, is set to leave his post and move to Newcastle to help Howe.

The sports scientist has been on the books at Blackburn since 2014, where he has been playing a key role in helping the players with their fitness.

It is unclear what job title Mason will be given in his new role at St James’ Park, but the club are hoping he will make a positive impact, especially with Howe known for being demanding of his players when it comes to fitness.

Newcastle are also set to rope in Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director and he is expected to work closely with Howe in terms of player recruitment and squad building.
