The Egyptian is having another stellar campaign for Liverpool and is leading the charts for goals and assists in the Premier League this season.

Salah has been elected as the Player of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association ahead of the likes of Cityzen star De Bruyne, and Guardiola, reacting to the news, took a swipe at Liverpool, saying that they always win the individual accolades in the game.

Reds legend Aldridge has slammed Guardiola for his comments about Salah being named the best footballer ahead of De Bruyne and feels it is idiotic, especially coming from a top coach.

Aldridge stressed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp would have acted with more class in a similar situation.

“Pep Guardiola’s comments about Salah winning the award ahead of Kevin De Bruyne were stupid”, Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

“Absolutely idiotic.

“It’s something that Klopp wouldn’t do and that’s where you can see the class of Jurgen.

“He would pat him on the back and say ‘Kevin De Bruyne, brilliant. Enjoy.’

“You don’t come out with comments like Pep did.

“You don’t benefit from it.

“It’s idiotic from such a good coach.”

Only a single point separates top flight leaders Manchester City and Liverpool after 34 games each, with the race for the title set to go down to the wire.
