The 21-year-old Dutchman was on Newcastle’s radar in the winter window and they tried to take him to St. James’ Park in January.

But Leverkusen rejected a €20m offer from Newcastle in the winter and the club decided to sign Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa.

Bakker remains on Newcastle’s radar despite the failed attempt as the club are still interested in signing a more progressive left-back.

And according to German magazine Sport Bild, Newcastle will make another attempt to sign the defender in the summer transfer window.

The Magpies want to take Bakker to England and are plotting to table another bid for him in the coming months.

Newcastle will add a few more million to the €20m offer they made for him in the winter window.

And Eddie Howe’s men are confident that Leverkusen will agree to sell the player this time around for a better fee.

The Dutchman could be interested in joining Newcastle if the two clubs can work out an agreement.
