Incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is looking to improve his midfield options at Old Trafford and countryman De Jong is on his radar.

A possible switch from Barcelona has been mooted and it is something the Catalan giants are open to, though any deal is far from being done.

The Camp Nou outfit’s financial issues mean they will consider selling De Jong to Manchester United if the money is right.

De Jong has made 45 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona so far this season, scoring four goals in the process.

He has helped Barcelona rise to second in La Liga following a difficult start to the campaign; the Catalans have won ten of their last 12 league games, conceding just eight goals.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester United will be able to agree a deal with Barcelona for the 25-year-old midfielder.

De Jong joined Barcelona from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2019, costing the club a fee of €75m.
