The 33-year-old’s current contract at Inter expires at the end of the season and the club are prepared to offer him a new two-year deal.

But the Croatian recently revealed his annoyance at Inter taking too long in his view to offer him a fresh contract and that has led to speculation over his future.

Perisic is keen on staying at Inter but the club are yet to offer him terms that would meet his €6m per year contractual demands.

Newcastle have made an approach for Perisic with a proposal which comes in at €6.5m per year and would see him well rewarded.

However, according to Italian outlet FcInterNews.it, Perisic wants to continue to compete for trophies at the top level.

With Newcastle still in a rebuilding process under Eddie Howe, Perisic may not be able to achieve those ambitions if he moves to England.

While Newcastle have the money to reach those heights in the coming years, the club are still not one of the top dogs of England at the moment.

And at the age of 33, Perisic may not be willing to wait.
