As they remain embroiled in a relegation dogfight this season, Everton have continued to find themselves on the wrong end of controversial decisions in games, with the latest being in their 2-1 loss to Brentford on Sunday.

Lampard, who is already facing a charge from the FA for questioning the integrity of refereeing in a previous game, made the headlines earlier this week when he expressed his displeasure over the same, following the Bees clash.

However, Lampard has made it clear that he will keep on defending Everton and will not hold back if his side are always on the short end of the stick when it comes to official decisions in games.

Lampard urged others at Everton to follow his lead and stand up for the club to show their strength, as he does not want the Merseyside giants to be seen as pushovers.

“People who know me well understand my competitive nature”, Lampard told Everton’s matchday programme for the Crystal Palace game.

“I wouldn’t hold back if I thought there was something affecting the Club that I felt wasn’t quite right.

“I try to be as straight as I can but to not offend people.

“But I have felt, in my short time here, we’ve had decisions not go our way that have been really clear and they have affected us – and I do not want us to be seen as a team that is in any way a soft touch.

“I want Everton to be a club that stands up for itself.

“If anyone has to do that, it is me.

“I think it is very important that when the opportunity comes to show we are a strong club, who will defend ourselves, absolutely I should be the first to do that and everyone should follow.”

Everton are gearing up to lock horns with Crystal Palace on Thursday at Goodison Park and will be determined to get a win, which will ensure their top flight safety.
