Salford sacked Gary Bowyer after 14 months in charge following his side’s failure to qualify for the League Two playoffs.

They were one of the favourites to get promoted but Salford eventually finished tenth in the league and will have to wait one more season to fight for promotion.

The club are on the lookout for a new manager and they are keen to make sure that they have a man in place as soon as possible to start preparations for the new season.

And it has been claimed that Wood is one of the prime contenders to become the next Salford manager.

Wood has been working in the Manchester United academy over the last three years and is currently in charge of their Under-23 side.

His ability to develop young players has caught the attention of Salford, who are run by prominent former Manchester United stars such as Gary Neville.

Neville has a strong link with his former club and Wood is being looked at as a potential manager despite his lack of experience of being a manager at first-team level.
