Bassey was in impressive form throughout the course of the recent season for the Gers, after not playing frequently in his maiden campaign for the club.

The left-back made 29 appearances in the league, scoring three goals and providing four assists, but his performances in the Europa League were even more impressive.

He played every minute of the knockout stages and earned admiration, especially for his performance in the final, even though the Gers lost.

Bassey has been linked in the aftermath with a host of clubs, including Aston Villa, amid talk that sides are keen.

However, the Gers have received no formal enquires about the left-back from Aston Villa or any other club.

The Villans have started the summer strongly by acquiring Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos.

They have yet to contact Rangers about Bassey however.

Aston Villa have uncertainty in the left-back position with the future of Matt Targett, but be that as it may they have not enquired about Bassey yet.
