Leigh has been released by the Shrimps and has become a free agent after signing for them last summer on a one-year deal.

He helped the Shrimps escape relegation last season as he made 36 appearances in the league and contributed with two goals and four assists.

Morecambe have released him, but Leigh has caught Ipswich’s eye and they are moving for him.

Ipswich are close to bringing the Manchester City academy product to Portman Road as they look to get a move-on in Kieran McKenna’s first full season in charge.

After finishing some way off of the playoff places this past season, the Blues boss will be eager to make an improved bid for promotion in the next campaign.

Leigh plays primarily at left-back and as Dominic Thompson has finished his loan spell with the Blues, returning to Brentford, they will bring in the Jamaican international to ensure they do not run short in that department.

Ipswich are not done though as they intend to make another signing in that area this summer, meaning Matt Penney will have plenty of competition for the left-back role next season.
