Newcastle are keen on adding a new centre-back to their backline and have zeroed in on Lille man Sven Botman as their top target.

The Magpies failed to snap up Botman in January but are looking to get a deal over the line for him this summer, although his future is shrouded in uncertainty amidst interest from AC Milan.

It has been claimed that Newcastle have identified Szalai as a potential alternative option for Botman, should they fail to land him this summer.

However, according to Turkish daily Fanatik, Newcastle could end up not having Szalai as a backup option as Ligue 1 champions PSG also have him in their sights.

New Les Parisiens sporting director Luis Campos has identified the Hungarian as a potential replacement for Presnel Kimpembe, who is getting linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes this summer.

It has even been suggested that PSG could table an opening bid for the 24-year-old in the €15m range.

But even though Newcastle have been left frustrated in their pursuit of Botman, they are yet to give up on him as he remains their priority centre-back target.
