De Jong has been Erik ten Hag’s number one transfer target this summer and Manchester United have been in talks with Barcelona for several weeks over agreeing on a deal.

It emerged over the weekend that the club were close to reaching an agreement with the Catalan giants and are aiming to finalise the deal by the end of this week.

And it has been claimed that a broad agreement is now in place between the two clubs for De Jong’s move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United have agreed to pay a fee of €65m plus add-ons to snare the Dutchman away from the Nou Camp.

More talks are set to follow to finalise the terms of the deal but the outlines of an agreement are in place.

Manchester United are anticipating no problems in agreeing on personal terms with De Jong and his representatives.

The Dutchman is keen on the move after being initially reluctant to join a club who are not in the Champions League.

Barcelona have been pushing to sell him in order to raise funds from the market amidst their financial problems.
