The Red Devils’ pursuit of Frenkie de Jong is in limbo after they agreed on a deal worth €85m with Barcelona for his signature but the player is yet to greenlight the move.

Manchester United are convinced once a deferred wage issue is sorted out, the midfielder will agree to move to Old Trafford this summer and they are willing to be patient to land Ten Hag’s top target.

But the club are considering alternatives and several other midfielders are being looked at as the season edges closer.

And it has been claimed that their interest in Tielemans has been growing with each passing day.

He is on Arsenal’s radar but the Gunners are yet to table a concrete bid for him as they consider their move.

Tielemans is waiting for Arsenal and other offers, and Manchester United could soon get into the mix for him.

He is considered a cheaper alternative than De Jong and a deal to sign him from Leicester would be much less complicated as he only has a year left on his contract.

The Belgian rejected considering a move to Manchester United under Ralf Rangnick but an approach from Ten Hag could lead to a different outcome.
