Gayle joined the Magpies from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2016 and enjoyed a successful first season on Tyneside as he scored 23 goals in 32 appearances.

The 32-year-old was no longer in Eddie Howe’s plans at St. James’ Park and was linked with a number of Championship teams, but it is Stoke who have won the race for his services and he has penned a two-year deal with the club.

Gayle expressed his delight to be able to join Michael O’Neil’s side and stated that he cannot wait to get started.

The former Newcastle star admitted that several clubs were interested in him, but for him it was about finding the right club and revealed that he was convinced after talking to the Stoke coaching staff as he made a permanent move from St. James’ Park.

“I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get started now“, Gayle told Stoke City’s official site.

“There were a few parties that were interested but for me it was about finding a club that was right for me and after speaking to the gaffer and the coaches I heard everything I wanted to hear.”

Stoke will begin their Championship campaign against Millwall on 30th July and all eyes will be on Gayle to make his competitive debut for the club.
