Luiz’s future at Villa Park is under the scanner as his current deal at the club expires next summer, while he has also attracted transfer interest from elsewhere.

Several clubs that can offer Champions League football have Luiz in their sights, while he is yet to sign a new deal at Aston Villa.

The Midlands outfit are locked in talks with the Brazilian on putting pen-to-paper on a new long-term deal at the club.

And talks between Aston Villa and Luiz have progressed smoothly with the club confident that they can hold on to him.

Lions boss Steven Gerrard sees Luiz playing a key role under him going forward and tying him down to a new deal has become a priority for the club as they have seen several of their midfield targets join other clubs.

Aston Villa are continuing talks with Luiz and hope they can sort out his contract situation soon.

Gerrard has roped in Boubacar Kamara to add to his midfield options but still sees Luiz playing a part in coming seasons.
