The Italian striker scored 16 times in Serie A for Sassuolo in 36 outings last season.

This summer, a number of clubs were vying for Scamacca’s services, but West Ham were successful in luring him away from Sassuolo for a transfer fee of £30.5m plus an additional £5m in bonus payments.

Moyes admitted that the club had been monitoring the player for a considerable amount of time and praised Scamacca’s link-up and build-up play.

The Hammers boss believes that the 23-year-old needs time to adjust to the Premier League and is certain that Samacca will provide a different dimension to his team.

“We have watched Gianluca for a long term, his link play, build up play is very impressive”, Moyes said at a press conference.

“23 is young for someone to come into the Premier League, you have to give young players time.

“He will bring us a different dimension, the two of them [and Michail Antonio] at times too.”

West Ham will face Manchester City on Sunday in their opening fixture of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign but Scamacca might not feature against Pep Guardiola’s side.
