Muriel has been an integral part of the Atalanta team for the past three seasons, performing magnificently in particular in the 2019/20 campaign, with 22 Serie A goals.

The Colombian striker struggled with injuries last term, but still managed nine league goals with the same number of assists to go along with them.

His displays upfront have earned him the admiration of Newcastle, who want to add to their striker department this summer.

However, Gasperini wants to keep hold of Muriel this summer and is not keen to see him leave, according to Italian outlet CalcioMercato.com.

Gasperini wants to pair him up with fellow striker Duvan Zapata up front and thus is not of a mind to sell him this window.

The striker has just a year left on his contract with Atalanta, but the Italians are claimed to want €15m for him.

Apart from Newcastle, Italian giants Juventus are also interested in the striker, but with Gasperini not willing to let him leave, it remains to be seen if any of the two clubs are successful in their pursuit.
