Mata left Manchester United after more than eight years of service this summer and is now a free agent and on the lookout for a club.

Leeds United have made a slew of midfield reinforcements this summer after losing Kalvin Phillips and it seemed Mata’s name could be added to that.

There were reports that Leeds United had closed out an agreement with the former Manchester Untied star to sign him this summer.

However, claims about an agreement between Leeds and Mata have now turned out to be baseless and he is not close to signing for the Whites.

In fact, there are not talks going on between the player and the club, though Leeds are appreciative of the talents of the experienced midfielder.

Mata has also been linked with Real Oviedo, back in his homeland of Spain, but even those links have been played down.

The midfielder is poised to take a decision soon on his future and has turned down offers from Major League Soccer as he wants to continue in Europe.
