The Frenchman has emerged as a viable midfield target for Manchester United and they have a verbal agreement worth €17m in place with Juventus.

But Manchester United are finding it hard to work out personal terms, with the player’s mother living up to her reputation for being a tough negotiator.

The club’s director of football, John Murtough, was in Turin this week to hold talks with Rabiot’s camp but left the city on Friday without an agreement in place.

According to Italian daily La Repubblica, Manchester United are still far away from working out contractual terms with the player.

Rabiot has still not moved away from his initial demand of being handed a deal worth €10m per year.

The Frenchman wants a lucrative offer on his table before he agrees to leave Juventus this summer.

Manchester United’s initial offer was low and for the moment there is no deal between the two sides.

The Premier League giants have been trying to reach Rabiot’s demands through bonuses spread over the length of the potential contract.
