Hammers boss David Moyes’ requests for a new attacking midfielder finally bore fruit with the club’s hierarchy splashing a record fee to rope in Paqueta from Lyon.
The Brazilian is set to provide West Ham with more creativity up front this season but he was not Moyes’ initial attacking midfield target.
Moyes has been looking to bring in Club Brugge star Vanaken, a player he also tried to sign in past windows.
West Ham have already seen the Belgians knock back their opening two bids for Vanaken, while the player is keen on a move to the London Stadium.
And according to Belgian daily Het Nieuwsblad, West Ham are still keen on snapping up Vanaken from Club Brugge, even though they have bolstered their squad with a new attacking midfielder in Paqueta.
Club Brugge through are hoping the 30-year-old will remain at the club beyond this window while they also want him to extend his stint by signing on a new deal.
The window is set to slam shut on Thursday and it remains to be seen whether West Ham will return to the negotiating table with an improved bid for Vanaken.
