The Magpies are admirers of Harrison and have believed throughout the summer than he can be tempted to St James’ Park if a fee is agreed with Leeds.

They have had two bids rejected though and as the hours tick down on deadline day it is claimed they are unlikely to be able to sign him.

Newcastle appear unwilling to reach the level of offer which would cause Leeds to want to cash in on Harrison.

The Whites would also need to find a replacement for him at a late stage in the transfer window.

Eddie Howe’s side do remain in the market for further signings, but are focusing on a loan addition in midfield.

It is unclear if they might consider one last bite at the cherry with Harrison and put in a late proposal.

Harrison has shone for Leeds so far this season and is regularly being selected in the team by boss Jesse Marsch.
