The Magpies have remained active in the market since completing a club-record deal to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad last week.

Eddie Howe wants to add a midfielder to his squad before the end of the transfer window tonight.

And Newcastle are claimed to be exploring several options to bring in someone on loan before the window slams shut at 11pm later today.

A midfielder is what they are looking to sign and they have placed calls to enquire about Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Juventus star Dennis Zakaria.

However, they are not expected to sign either of the two players before the window closes tonight.

West Ham defender Harrison Ashby is also on Newcastle’s radar but for the moment nothing is imminent.

Newcastle are remaining alert to market opportunities as they aim to add one more new signing to their squad this summer.
