The Potters turned out for their first match under Alex Neil in the Championship last night and the new boss is keen to add to his squad on deadline day.
Neil wants Sterling and has spoken to the Chelsea talent to sell a move to the Potteries.
The full-back has been booked in for his medical by Stoke as they look to seal a season-long loan swoop.
Sterling is suggested to have been impressed by the facilities at Stoke and their ambition to climb back up to the Premier League under Neil.
In addition to operating as a right-back, Sterling is also capable of playing as a right wing-back and a right midfielder.
He is not new to the Championship and had a spell on loan at Blackpool in the division last term.
The Chelsea starlet made a total of 25 appearances for Blackpool, collecting two yellow cards in the process.
