The 19-year-old academy graduate moved out on his first spell away from his childhood club, joining the League One outfit on a season-long loan deal.

Coburn started his career at Sunderland, spending as many as five years at the club before leaving for Middlesbrough.

He has since been at the Riverside and was handed his senior debut in April last year.

There have been 26 more appearances in a Middlesbrough shirt since then, but now the Championship side have sent him out on loan to gather more first-team experience.

The Bristol Rovers boss has confidence in his ability and feels that Coburn will add something more to what they already have in attack.

“We are delighted to add Josh to the group and are confident he will add a different dimension to our attacking options”, Barton told his club’s official website.

Coburn will be aiming to now feature regularly for Barton at the Gas and chip in with goals in League One.
