The Whites wanted to add another forward to their ranks amid Patrick Bamford’s injury troubles, Rodrigo’s injury and Daniel James’ move to Fulham on loan.

They failed with moves for Bamba Dieng and Cody Gakpo; Piroe is a versatile player, a centre-forward by trade who is equally comfortable on either wing.

Before finally adding Wilfried Gnonto from Zurich, Leeds were interested in acquiring the services of the 23-year-old Dutchman, but Swansea ruled out selling him before deadline day.

Piroe made 47 appearances for the Swans in all competitions during the 2021/22 season, scoring 24 goals and laying on six assists.

So far this season, Piroe has seven appearances to his name for Swansea, recording two goals along the way.

Leeds drew their midweek game against Everton at home 1-1, coming from behind in the fixture where Rodrigo dislocated a shoulder but Bamford made his return from injury for Jesse Marsch’s side.

Up next for the Whites is a trip to the scene of their great escape from relegation last season, with Brentford waiting for them on Saturday.
