The 32-year-old defensive midfielder has returned to Goodison Park and signed a two-year contract with the club.
After making 108 outings for the Toffees in his first stint, Gueye left Everton to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain, where he won two Ligue 1 titles and helped the French outfit reach their first ever Champions League final, in 2020.
Everton’s director of football Thelwell explained that the club were keen to bring back the 32-year-old defensive midfielder to Goodison Park and stressed that the deal was very important for the club.
Thelwell has insisted that everyone at the club hierarchy are certain that Gueye will prove to be a vital player for the Everton squad and emphasised that the player will bring competition into midfield.
“Idrissa is a player we were all keen to bring back to the club he calls home and our chairman has worked tirelessly over recent weeks to make that happen and to get this important deal done”, Thelwell told Everton’s official site.
“Idrissa has showed in his previous three years at the club how important he is, and we have no doubt he will be a key part of our team again and provide strong competition in our midfield.”
Everton will face Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday, and Gueye will be hoping to make his debut for the club in the Merseyside derby.
