The Reds havestruggled to hit top form so far in the Premier League this season, only winning just two of their opening six games.
Liverpool are gearing up to set off on their Champions League journey midweek and will travel to Italy to take on Serie A giants Napoli.
Former Napoli star Cannavaro feels that Liverpool are a bit weaker at present compared to last season owing to the departure of a key player in Sadio Mane.
However, Cannavaro warned Napoli that the Merseyside giants are still a ruthless outfit that will punish opponents by forcing them to make mistakes.
“The English [Liverpool] have lost a little bit compared to last year”, Cannavaro was quoted as saying by Italian outlet Areanapoli.it.
“Mane put in work both in defence and in the final third and it is clear that they are still struggling.
“They struggled against an aggressive Everton, a team that did not make mistakes in their own half.
“But the Reds are ruthless, they are cynical, they live on the mistakes that their opponents make up front, they press and push you to make mistakes.
“And as soon as you make a mistake, they punish you.”
Liverpool fell at the final hurdle in the Champions League last term losing to Real Madrid, but will hope to go all the way in the continental competition this season.
