Celtic have been playing thrilling football this season, which came to a crescendo when they beat Rangers 4-0 in the Glasgow derby at home on Saturday.

But a sterner test lies in front of them when they host European champions Real Madrid tonight in the first game of their Champions League group.

There are suggestions that Real Madrid could carve Celtic open if the Bhoys continue to be too attacking but Nevin stressed that he cannot see the team changing their style against the Spanish giants.

He conceded that it might not work against Real Madrid but feels Celtic are unlikely to be defensive tonight.

The former Scotland star feels that there is a chance Celtic will not be that good if they try to sit back against Real Madrid and Ange Postecoglou knows that.

Nevin said on Off The Ball: “There is no way they are sitting back and there is no way they are not going to try and do to Real Madrid what they try and do to everyone.

“It might not work but it won’t be for the lack of trying to play that way.

“I have a suspicion and I suspect Postecoglou understands that too, if they try and play a different way, a way more defensive way, they will get done because they don’t know whether they would be that good at that.”

Celtic have been placed in Group F of the Champions League alongside Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk.
