Spurs are currently level on points with defending champions Manchester City, but placed third in the Premier League table due to a lower goal difference.
Arsenal are the current league leaders, a point ahead of the Citizens, but recently lost to their rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford to end their perfect record in the Premier League.
Nevin insists that if he had to choose between Tottenham and their north London rivals Arsenal for the top four, he would pick Spurs who, in his opinion, are better placed to finish in the top three.
He praised Conte’s grown-up style of management, pointing to the intelligence surrounding the way they play and also the attacking options at the Italian tactician’s disposal.
Nevin also added that Spurs are not yet firing on all cylinders but still managed to get creditable results and prophesised that Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal will be fighting it out for the last Champions League spot.
“If I have to choose between Spurs and Arsenal for the top four, I’m still with Spurs”, Nevin said on Off The Ball.
“Spurs, from the start of the season, really grown-up management, real intelligence about the way they play.
“I think with what they’ve got going forward, and this as we saw is with them not playing particularly well yet, I think they’re really special too.
“I suspect that Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to be fighting it out for that fourth spot.”
Tottenham play host to Marseille in their Champions League opener and travel to the Etihad on Saturday, the site of a famous win in the corresponding fixture last season.
