The Magpies have found themselves in a spot of bother in their goalkeeping department at an early point of the season.

Newcastle allowed Martin Dubravka to join Manchester United on loan on deadline day, but Darlow’s injury has reduced their options between the sticks.

The Newcastle number 2 picked up an injury ankle injury in training on Wednesday and they are now in need of cover.

It has been claimed that the club are now set to bring in former Liverpool custodian Karius on a free transfer as an emergency signing.

The German’s contract with Liverpool expired at the end of last season following a loan spell at Union Berlin.

The 29-year-old has been looking for a new club and is now set to return to England with Newcastle.

Darlow is set to face an extended spell on the sidelines, which has forced Newcastle to move for Karius.

The goalkeeper is already in Newcastle to complete his move to the Magpies.
