Nottingham Forest are 19th in the Premier League table and have lost their last four games, which has led to speculation over Cooper’s future.

The Nottingham Forest boss was heavily backed in the market and the club brought in an unprecedented 23 players in the summer transfer window.

While their summer business caught the eye of many, Mills believes it is a sign of an owner who meddles in the team’s affairs as he indicated that no manager would want that number of players.

He feels if results do not improve, Cooper will get sacked as the Forest owner will believe that he can bring in a new manager who can get better performances out of the large squad that was built in one transfer window.

Mills said on talkSPORT: “It smacks of a meddling owner making signings and because of that reason the writing is on the wall for the manager.

“If he doesn’t get results in the next three or four games, the owner will turn around and say, ‘I have given you these players, you are not getting the best out of them and I will bring someone in that can’.

“I think that would be very unfair on Steve Cooper, but that’s what it is.”

Nottingham Forest will return to action after the international break with an away game against Leicester City, who are at the foot of the league table.
