The Addicks have managed to win just two of their first nine games of the season and currently find themselves 14th in League One with eleven points.
It has been their away form that has taken a particular hit with just three points coming from the five matches they have played on the road.
Garner though feels that the games on the road have been decided by fine margins, apart from the 3-1 loss against Bolton Wanderers earlier this month.
The 42-year-old admits that they were outplayed by Bolton but in spite of that, feels that a turn in fortunes is not a million miles away.
Ahead of their game against Barnsley, Garner, while judging the strength of their opponents told his club’s official website: “Every game is tough in League One, we say that week in, week out.
“Barnsley, ironically, have been better away from home than they have been at home.
“Different teams are going through different things and some are be better away and some are better at home.
“It’s been very fine margins in terms of our away games, aside from Bolton where I would hold my hands up and say, ‘we weren’t as good, we deserved to lose that game’.
“Other than that we could have been taking wins from each of the games, including Sheffield Wednesday where we lost and we could easily have won that game.
“We’re not a million miles away, we’re proving that we’re hard to beat and we want to be winning more games than we are.”
In spite of Charlton’s poor run of form, they are not too far away from a playoff spot, trailing sixth-placed Barnsley by three points.
A win on Saturday would allow them to close the gap.
