The 19-year-old forward came through the Everton academy ranks and in the 2020/21 season broke into Everton’s Under-21s side and played three times in the Premier League 2, but his season was curtailed due to a hamstring injury.

This season, Kouyate has made seven appearances for Everton’s development side and impressed senior team boss Lampard.

The forward trained with the Toffees senior team during the international break and penned a new deal which will keep him at Goodison until 2024.

Kouyate stated his desire to improve not only his own game but also his understanding of the game, and stressed that he wants to get back into the starting line-up in Everton’s Under-21s.

The 19-year-old emphasised his desire to spend more time with the first-team squad this season and added that he now recognises the difference between his current level and that of senior players.

“My aim is to improve my understanding of the game, my positioning and my shooting with my weaker foot”, Kouyate told Everton’s official site.

“My main priority this season is to get back into the Under-21s starting team and then, in the future, get myself in and around the First Team.

“It was massive to get a chance to train with them recently.

“It was great to see the difference between the level I am at now and the likes of Dimi [Gray] and [Neal] Maupay to see where I need to go to to take my game to the next level.

“Now I’ve been there, I want to strive to get back there.”

Kouyate will ply his trade under his former Under-18s boss Paul Tait this season and will be eager to impress his first-team boss Lampard.
