Forest Green recently lost their director of football, Richard Hughes, to fellow third tier side Portsmouth.
The owners of Forest Green were not happy with Hughes’ departure, but nonetheless they have now sought to replace him.
Tinnion formerly played for Bristol City and after finishing out his playing days, worked with the youth set-up at Ashton Gate.
He was promoted to become academy director last year in October, but he could be on the move from the Robins.
Forest Green have established communications with Bristol City over Tinnion becoming their new director of football.
Tinnion has not served in a role like a director of football before and it remains to be seen if the third division side are able to snag him.
The academy director is highly respected at Bristol City and played a part in bringing current first-team stars Antoine Semenyo and Alex Scott to Ashton Gate.
