Last year, Newcastle became one of the richest clubs on the planet after a takeover by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, in association with the likes of Amanda Staveley.
However, the takeover was not without its controversy as criticism was directed at the club and the owners over their ties to the Saudi Arabian state.
Howe thinks there is a point to the displeasure at the Newcastle owners but stressed that they passed the owners and directors’ test.
The Magpies boss also insisted that while he knows he has spent the money of the owners, all of his decisions have been for the best of Newcastle.
“I do understand why some people feel that way”, Howe said in a press conference on the Newcastle owners.
“But they passed the owners’ and directors’ test and I realise I’ve been the decision-maker behind where some of the money has been spent.
“But that has been to do with making the best football decisions for Newcastle.”
Since the takeover, Newcastle have had newer affinities with Saudi Arabia, such as the colour of their third kit being inspired by the colours of the nation’s team, as well as training camps to the country.
Under the new ownership, Newcastle did manage to survive last season and had a bumper summer this year in terms of money spent.
