The Baggies have Under-21s manager Richard Beale on standby to take over in the interim and perhaps take charge of the trip to Reading on Saturday.
Beale filled in as caretaker boss at Birmingham City for a week during the 2014/15 season and is being lined up to do the same at The Hawthorns.
There are no guarantees that West Brom will have a new manager in place before the visit to the Madejski Stadium at the weekend.
Those in charge at the Baggies are not expected to appoint Bruce’s successor imminently, with the recruitment process expected to commence now.
West Brom have only eleven points from 13 games in the Championship, with their record being one win, eight draws and four losses.
Three of those four losses came in their current winless run stretching to eight games after the thumping win over Hull City on matchday five.
The West Brom hierarchy will look to make an appointment soon and steer the club away from the relegation zone, with the Baggies currently sitting in 22nd place.
