Liverpool are 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal in the league table following their 3-2 defeat at the Emirates over the weekend.
The Reds are sitting tenth in the league table and are now facing a real fight to get into the top four of the Premier League for the rest of the season.
Their next league assignment is a daunting game against Manchester City but Aldridge stressed that Liverpool must focus on getting a result at Rangers on Wednesday night.
He insisted that given the dynamics in the Champions League group they cannot afford to drop points at Ibrox and must make sure that they qualify for the next round by hook or by crook.
The Liverpool legend wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo: “Rangers is the first one. They can’t slip up. No slip-ups.
“They can’t let Ajax get back into it.
“We have to go to Rangers and get three points. Draw away at Ajax and then we’re alright, we’ll qualify.
“It doesn’t matter if we’re first or second, Napoli are a great side. Just qualify.
“Get Rangers out of the way then you worry about City.”
Liverpool are second in their Champions League group with six points on the scoreboard.
